Character Descriptions 4 Replies

I've realized recently that many of my favorite authors never really stop to describe the characters, or only spend a few words on them, and yet I think I know exactly what they look like, while…Continue

Strong language? 10 Replies

What are your thoughts on allowing strong language to appear in your fiction? I've seen it done (by Christians) in effective ways...and I've also seen it done lazily, or as if the author was trying…Continue

Transparency and Createspace 4 Replies

Has any of you published a book with createspace and had them reject it because of transparency? I think this is because I put scans of pictures I drew in it. Anyone know how to get rid of…Continue

Felice, you continue to amaze me!  I love your determination, creativity and heart for ministry!  I've been so blessed by you!  Your Information in a Nutshell radio show is awesome!  I'm looking forward to listening to the one on how authors should keep track of sales, etc.

I absolutely love your books!  I love adventure, and there is plenty of it there.  It is woven splendidly around the creation facts!  I found myself very engaged in the "creation conversations!"

I so look forward to getting to know you more, and learning from your treasure trove of publishing wisdom. Keep up the great work!

Wesley, your story sounds really neat! I've read a little of it and I think I might have found a typo of some kind. It seems to repeat itself in this part: "Following the commotion in the parking lot I decided I would take the bus or train out of town so I could have a better life out west. I left heading to the bus station only to find out that I didn't have enough money for a ticket. I then headed to the train station and was told the same thing. I walked out very disappointed not knowing what to do now. I walked over to the park near by and sat on the bench till it got dark. I then moved on to find a place where I could lie down and get some sleep and figure out how to get out of town. Kim - Whenever you get the time to read it is fine. And others too.

Just to let you know in case I have not said it before. I am not the author, I am the human author. Not sure what I mean. God is the author, not me.  Thinking of closing the book when I get all of Revelations into it. That is part of the Bible that needs to get out there now, according to a few pastors who hear God whispering in their ear. Me as well. Hope to be done writing by the end of April.

Hi Everyone, I've been off for a while but glad to see that I could catch this thread of discussion. Thanks Kim Jones for the plug. By the way if you want to listen to a great interview go to my podcast site and listen to the interview I had with Kim! (http://www.writingandpublishingradio.com) And, yes I do publish other authors and have a series of fiction novels for teens, but let me share it is very difficult to sell Christian Creation Fiction even with fabulous reviews.

I wrote a series of Creation Study Guides for parents, Christian schools and homeschoolers and ICR carried our books for years and sold thousands, yet when they were offered the Truth Seekers Mystery Series (Published in 2004) and they declined to sell them through their catalog. At the time they were hosting the Jonathan Park Series (creation based mystery adventures ...) JP is similar to our books in that they are factual creation facts cloaked in a fiction story. JP are geared for younger children 12 and younger and our series if for older 12+  However, ICR was concerned that people will confuse the fiction element with the factual elements. I too was concerned about this so we were very careful to have each our novels read by no less than 3 creation scientists. Yes, a few errors escaped all our eyes, but were caught after the printing and this info is on our website, but overall our novels are all factual with a twist to make them fun for children.

Even if we've had to sell them ourselves on the website it has been worth the effort. The parental response has been overwhelming. Children using these books as a ministry tool (gift the book to others) and wanting to read more factual books because a love of knowledge for more Creation specific books. These books are also available via CBD.com. The series was chosen by God's World Publishing to be featured right before the book arm folded. I believe they still sell their monthly subscription newsletter for kids.

I hope to republish the novels with a state wide talent search for the "real" Anna and Christian Murphy (the teens in the book). I have spoken to a large parent magazine about partnering in this venture. It is on the docket for this year if the Lord opens the doors.

I wish you the best with your venture.

All the best to you all with your books. I am still working on mine. Aiming for end of April to be finished writing. Then to proof read it and give it the green light for an e-book first.

Check it out.

Thanks guys for the encouragement! I've been learning a lot lately about getting published. Our local library had a meeting after NaNoWrimo and no one showed up other than the librarian that set it up! So we had an hour and forty-five minute talk about it and I learned about some books to refer to when I'm ready to publish! Thanks again and happy writing/editing!

Jeremiah, we are all so proud of you, and can hardly wait to see you get your first book in print.  I know it will happen; just keep writing for God.
