Permalink Reply by Kim Jones on February 19, 2011 at 10:49am Hi Tommy! That is a WAY cool picture! Can you tell me where you took the pic? Was it near the Sheep Eaters formations?
Yes, it is volcanic activity. I'm pretty sure I know the explanation, but will research it a bit first. Do you have more Yellowstone pics? LOVE this one! Hooray!

Kim,
I took this picture at a pulloff right around Tower Falls which is just a few miles south of Roosevelt Lodge. This kind of really interests me because I enjoy considering how the earth was impacted by the Genesis Flood; either during the flood, the post flood run off or by continuing activity like volcanos and earthquakes. Thank you for your time and here are a few more pictures.
Blessings,
Tommy

Here is a reply I found at http://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/towerrfaq.htm
Q. How did the (basalt) columns form (at Calcite Springs)?
A. The formation you see across the Yellowstone River was formed by a basaltic lava flow that cracked into the hexagonal columns, or "fence posts," as it slowly cooled. Similar basalt columns can be seen at the Sheepeater Cliffs along the Gardner River between Mammoth and Norris.
These are called basalt columns. I do not agree with a "millions of years" view you see on this link, but I do agree with the formation of these basalt columns.
I'd love to see more Yellowstone pics! These are very cool!
Thanks for sharing them!

Permalink Reply by Kevin W Anderson on February 20, 2011 at 9:10pm method, that surging flood water caused large lava pools to cool quickly and crack into columns. See http://creation.com/images/pdfs/flyers/giants-causeway-s.pdf for an explanation for Irlands Devils Causeway, which has simular features as the basalt fence posts in Yellowstone. These features are also foud in othe places. One of which can be found on Creation Science Associations South East Missouri Creation Safari to Hughe's Mountain to visit The Devil's Honeycomb. I don't why they are mostly called Devil's something,
Permalink Reply by Kim Jones on February 20, 2011 at 9:34pm Yeah! Now this is what I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE! I didn't know about this info on basalt! Go Kevin! I've studied lots of creation geology, but somehow missed this! I'm SO excited! Tommy, hope you read this link! I like this info MUCH MUCH MUCH better than what I gave you! I really love this info because you also see these formations in the Grand Coulee - where I used to work. HMM! OK - I'm embarrassed I didn't know this info -- but my excitement has overcome my embarrassment.
MORE! MORE! I want to learn more! What else do you have to share about Yellowstone Kevin? (: Thanks so much! Woo Hoo! I feel this info going into a book somehow! (:

Permalink Reply by Kim Jones on February 20, 2011 at 9:49pm I want to study more about these basalt formations and anything at all I can get on Creation geology and Yellowstone. Guess where Ranger Jack and Jen are probably headed next... Any resources you can suggest Kevin?
I so much appreciate your input! So fun learning these evidences!

Kim,
Some time ago I mentioned Michael Oard's (and others) creation geology road guide for the Yellowstone region. This would be avery valuable resource for you in this area. Sorry, I don't know exactly how to get one of these little books, but you can probably contact Mr. Oard through Answers in Genesis. I believe someone else on Creation Conversations was successful in acquiring a copy by following a trail, possibly even through ICR or CRS.

Permalink Reply by Kim Jones on February 21, 2011 at 11:26am Thank you all for the conversation and input. Geology is one of the great fields of study that points to the Genesis Flood. It is exciting to find and understand the pieces of evidence to help support and strengthen what the Bible teaches.
Kim, if you have Facebook, I have several more pictures I posted on my ministry page, Creation Connection Ministries.
If not, I will be glad to post more pictures here.
Blessings and I look forward to more conversations after I have read Kevin's article.
