Does anyone know what causes these type of rock formations?  This is in the northeastern portion of the park.  I was thinking someone had said it was due to volcanic activity when the park was an active volcano.

Thanks,

Tommy

Kim,

You were asking about resources for dinosaurs; a few things I have found that deal with the subject Biblically, scientifically and historically are...

Dragons or Dinosaurs?  http://www.dragonsfilm.com/

The Great Dinosaur Mystery by Ken Ham

Those Mysterious Dinosaurs by Norma Whitcomb

The Dinosaur Delusion by Eric Lyons and Kyle Butt

I hope your camp goes well this summer.

I just met with Michael Oard today and he said that he was in the process of up dating the Yellowstone road guide. I am looking forward to it.

Cool Kevin!  I got the field guide and am enjoying it.  I may have some questions about it later.  (: Cool that you go to meet with Michael Oard!  Very very cool!

The last photo has a lovely banded effect.  I have a nice book on Mount Saint Helens that explains how banding like this forms.  It was probably formed by pyroclastic flows.  The postpile formation is probably a vertical movement of heated rock or molten lava.  There was a lot of volcanic activity during the flood.

Would you share the title of the Mt Saint Helens book?  These vertical formations are really quite interesting.  It seems that they give an insight to the flood from the perspective that the vertical movement would've needed to cool off quickly in order to maintain this shape.  This sounds like water (Genesis flood) present to make this happen.  In July I went to Devil's Tower and the entire formation is this very type of geology.

Foot Prints in the Ash by John Morris and Steven A. Austin.  It is lovely little book full of photos.
Thank you
