Hi Aaron, a creationist friend has sent me the below video concerning the first verse of the Bible, and as a student of Hebrew, I wondered what you made of it.  I have read several books over the years that purport to reveal unseen codes and secrets embedded in the Bible text, The Bible Code, Septemial, etc, and I have huge reservations about them, so I was wondering about this, as the pictographic side of Hebrew, which dates back to hieroglyphics when the children of Israel were lead out of bondage in Egypt, is difficult to fake.

Hi Dr. Dereck,

Just plain Derek, will do Aaron

I know what you mean about other online communities, I belong to Premier Christian Community (could almost say I was a founder member) and the general forum is not a place foe the feint-hearted.  Some of the so called Christians are as bad as the atheists on the site for attack and abusing creationists, so when this site came up I thought I would give it a try.

I can't say that I am either a YEC or a super-old Earth supporter, the fact is that we just don't know how old the universe or the Earth really is.  In general I believe that science is not that far from scripture, and although I do not like the term 'Big Bang' I can see no conflict between it and scripture.  I have done a lot of theoretical physics research on the subject over the past fifteen years or so and I have developed a model which seems to work.  The basics of the model can never be confirmed by any experimentation so I will never know until we meet in glory, if it is right or wrong.  Mainstream science has come to the conclusion that, prior to the event horizon there was neither space nor time, it also says that the universe is finite (it has a beginning, limits and, presumably therefore, an end).  If this is true then I can see no conflict here, and in fact supports what we know about God, i.e. He is eternal, and outside of both space (omnipresent) and time.  Now comes the real theoretical bit, I started to wonder what would happen if our friend the 'Super-dense Particle' was somehow injected, by God, into this perfect void condition.  My model and my maths tells me that there would be an instantaneous expansion of the matter, which would keep expanding until its energy was depleted, initially huge quantities of energy, much of which was released as heat.

From inside this universe it would seem that the universe was incredibly old, even though in the main it was an instantaneous expansion, which slowed down as the energy was depleted.  Instantaneous, because outside the universe there is neither space or time, therefore there can be no restrictions like the speed of light.  In an instantaneous universe the expansion would generate photon trails, with every body being in line of sight with every other, so using the speed of light to estimate distance is flawed.  We are using internal standards and laws to measure what was an external event.

I hope I have explained this well enough for you to understand, but I didn't want to post dozens or hundreds of pages.

Every blessing

Derek

Thank you for your CV (LOL) a very impressive record of looking after the faithful.  I don't have such a long and dedicated history, but I have been a born again Christian since 1972, after what could be called an Emmaus Road experience.  At the time I was working mainly  in the defence industry, researching and developing guidance systems for missiles, but also some work for NASA and a few other non-defence projects and a few 'Black-projects' which I still can't mention .

I suppose I have done many jobs in various churches, my three greatest loves are music, photography and writing, so naturally I suppose, I have spent almost forty years involved in the praise & worship scene, and have edited several church magazines, community newspapers, and countless papers, and I have written on science from a Christian point of view, for several Christian magazines.  On top of this I have preached on a regular basis, spoken and lectured on creation (and on occasion lectured in a few universities), and been a Chaplain's Assistant in a local prison.

I resigned from the defence job in 1982 after the Falklands War following seeing my systems being used to actually kill people (not a nice feeling and one that is very difficult to cope with), I then became the manager of a (eventually large) Youth Training Scheme (YTS), that specialised in the marginalised school leavers, without qualifications.  From my voluntary post as Chaplains Assistant, I moved on to manage a Christian Special Needs Housing Association that supplied accommodation and support to offenders from prison or on probation orders.  I became the advisor to police and local authorities on the support, monitoring and control of sex offenders, and did this until I retired in 2007.  I am now 68 and living on the lovely island of Lesvos, in the North-east Aegean (Greece).  I continue to write and supply sermons and articles for online sites and maintain my own websites.  That's me!

I look forward to reading that Aaron. maybe I should not be a member of the site, as I do not hold to either the young Earth or the 14.7 billion year old Earth.

Blessings
