The Fall of Man

Posted on November 9, 2011 at 6:55am 0 Comments

Our church is doing a series on doctrine, and the pastor gave one of the most moving sermons I have ever heard.  So, rather than pontificate and theorize on my own, I'm merely posting his sermon.  Do yourselves a favor and set aside an hour to listen to it; it's worth it.

Biblical Apologetics: The "Life Verse"

Posted on July 18, 2011 at 8:46am 1 Comment

This morning, as I was leaving my doctor's office, I noticed a gentleman reading the Psalms.  I commented that the psalm he was reading (101) was a great psalm, and that I had just finished reading through the Book of Psalms myself.  One bit of conversation lead to another, and he asked me what my "life verse" was.

Now, having grown up in the Baptist tradition, I am more than familiar with the concept of a life verse, and, before we continue, I want to make it clear that the…

For the one or two of you that have read my blogs regularly, I both thank you for reading, and apologize for the delay.  Call it a "blogging retreat," or a "spiritual musing fast;" call it whatever you may wish, but God has brought me face-to-face with my own hypocrisy, and I needed to back up a bit and spend some time in His Word.  Oddly, the lesson started with Batman.

I forced my wife, through subtle subterfuge, to watch Batman Begins (as retribution, I will soon…

"The fool says in his heart,

'There is no God.'"

Striking words, when we really look at them, aren't they?  Our arguments and discussions center around those who deny the very existence of God.  Our culture calls them "athiests."  The Bible calls them "fools."  The first is a sterilized word that manages to remain - at least somewhat - inoffensive to our sensibilities as a culture.  The second word is far from sterile - is, in fact, offensive - which is, perhaps, why…

I was reading some of your "Stranger in this Strange Land" blogs the other day, and noticed the one about changeling mythology.  It reminded me of how my Daddy never let any of us out his sight in the hospital for fear the nurses would swap us out for another infant.  I guess some things never change!

Well, most stuff I paint is a good bit smaller than that (say, 1:32 scale).  I'll just pray for you while you paint, how about.

Still enjoying the book.  My favorite part so far is the story of the Wangongo people trying to reach the moon; I broke out laughing just imagining that!
