Brian Guiley replied to Francis Toner's discussion 'Water baptism'
"Francis,   Perhaps, but there are many tests that we are put under, and I do not think any of them will take us from our saviour's hand.  There are many activities and practices that as christians we are called to.  And Baptism…"

"My sentiments exactly, David. Brian mentioned the practice of substitutionary baptism. Imagine if someone did that for you, and you then found yourself standing at the pearly gates. Peter walks up to you and says: “Hello, can I help…"

"Brian, I hear what you saying in regard to the patriarchs. Now I may be splitting hairs here, but they were under a different era in God’s plan for man. They all lived pre-Christ. We live post-Christ. In any case some of them are mentioned as…"

David Thomas Posey replied to Francis Toner's discussion 'Water baptism'
"The repentance issue is my principle objection to infant baptism.  John "preached the baptism of repentance for remission of sins", and those he baptized confessed their sins.  Repentance is necessary for salvation, and…"

Brian Guiley replied to Francis Toner's discussion 'Water baptism'
"For myself, one of the key rationales behind why baptism is not a necessary condition of salvation, is that the patriarchs of israel are indicated as saved, by faith, and they were not baptized.  Faith is the only necessary condition of…"

"In thought since I had a bit of time I would see where the response have gone.  Like Francis I too am a member of the Church of Christ.  He has said most of what I would say so I won't repeat any of that.My major contention with…"

"Keith, this thread IS about water baptism so there is no point starting another one. Whilst I agree that baptism can be and is a divisive issue I believe that it is accepted there will be differences in understanding among Christians about various…"

David Thomas Posey replied to Francis Toner's discussion 'Water baptism'
"Although I believe that such a thread discussing all dividing issues between denominations would be popular, I don't think it should be started.  On this thread we can see what happens when we discuss such issues: "my…"

Keith Deschler replied to Francis Toner's discussion 'Water baptism'
"Francis, the Church of Christ is a "Baptistic" branch of Protestantism, in that it teaches that baptism and the Lord's Supper are NOT means of grace, but merely memorial signs of our obedience and commitment to Christ and His…"

Francis M Russell replied to Francis Toner's discussion 'Water baptism'
"Keith, I'm not a Baptist, nor belong to any such denomination. I belong to the Church of Christ. Period. I noted a tone of ire in your reply, possibly because of my reference to the Book of Concordia. It was and is NOT my intention to disparage…"

Keith Deschler replied to Francis Toner's discussion 'Water baptism'
"Danika, I don't know you (first time I saw a post by you). Again, the people who are responding to this thread are not supportive of a sacramental concept of Baptism, that it is a means of grace that saves people from their bondage to sin,…"

Danika Sheree Tolbert replied to Francis Toner's discussion 'Water baptism'
"New here. Saw this thread and it piqued my interest. So I thought I would respond. Is water baptism necessary. Well, we are saved by faith alone. The Bible it's pretty consistent that no work or deed can save you. So baptism cannot save. So…"

Keith Deschler replied to Francis Toner's discussion 'Water baptism'
"Francis, it is clear that this is a difficult and very divisive  issue(not only the nature of the Baptism and Communion, whether they are sacraments or ordinances, but how we come to faith and whether man's will has any role in salvation).…"

Good points. What does the Bible mean? What does the Bible declare in simple straightforward language? Those who took up the pen had an intended sense or meaning and that is what we seek to learn and understand. When we do, it is a cause for great joy (Nehemiah 8:5-12). What a passage!

While the word YOM may on occasion carry the meaning of an indefinite period of time (Gen. 2:4), the usage is rare but ALWAYS clear from the context. Meanwhile the normal meaning of the word is an ordinary rotational day, and most certainly this is the sense when the word is accompanied by ordinal descriptors, and indicated by other contextual clues such as a description of evening and morning.
