Pieces of Light by Julie Cave

Pieces of Light by Julie Cave

This is the third and final book in the Dinah Harris mystery series. The author develops the character and story lines enough to make this a stand-alone book, but it would be helpful to read the other two (Deadly Disclosures and The Shadowed Mind) beforehand in order to better understand the characters.

As with the other books in the series, Julie Cave has several subplots going on as well as the main plot. The main plot is about Dinah Harris,…

Carson-Newman College - Teaching Creation Might Bring High School Accreditation Issues - in their own words

In response to the book Already Compromised by Ken Ham and Greg Hall, this writer has posted a series of blog posts about one of those 200 colleges and universities whose administrators were surveyed about what they believe personally about the Bible and biblical authority and on the worldview from which they believe students in their college classrooms are being taught.  The college that has been described in these blog posts is Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN, a…

Book Review: Already Compromised

Already Compromised is written by Ken Ham and Greg Hall with Britt Beemer and published by Master Books, Green Forest, AR.  In the introduction of the book, Ham presents a brief history of Christian higher education within the United States.  This narrative focuses on how Ivy League schools were once rooted in Biblical thinking but now have forsaken their roots for secular ideology.  This observation makes the reader wonder how many other “Christian” colleges are still…

Ark Wars: Answering "rev" Barry Lynn's Ark Snark Video

Recently, the kind folks at Americans United for Separation of Church and State sent me an email telling me about a special message from “Rev” Barry Lynn concerning the “Ark Park.” I never asked to be signed up to their spam feeder; I simply asked them to verify the “reverend’s” credentials…

PZ Myers on Why Creationists Believe, or A Look at an Evolutionist’s Double Standard

Recently on “rev” Barry Lynn’s Culture Shocks program, PZ Myers commented on geocentrism. After stating that such folks affirm that the Earthnis the center of the galaxy or universe or whatever based on scientific ignorance ["It's pretty easy to dismiss what you don't understand," opines Myers], he made the following… Continue

Biblical Apologetics: The "Life Verse"

This morning, as I was leaving my doctor's office, I noticed a gentleman reading the Psalms.  I commented that the psalm he was reading (101) was a great psalm, and that I had just finished reading through the Book of Psalms myself.  One bit of conversation lead to another, and he asked me what my "life verse" was.

Now, having grown up in the Baptist tradition, I am more than familiar with the concept of a life verse, and, before we continue, I want to make it clear that the…

Carson-Newman College: "Creation and Evolution Can Happily Coexist" - in their own words

In three earlier blog posts, Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN has been shown to be a quintessential example of an Already Compromised Baptist College whose faculty members no longer uphold the authority of Scripture, but teach their classes from the worldview known as naturalism.  Students are told that evolution was "God's way" of accomplishing the creation.  In these earlier posts, evidence for this assertion about the worldview from which classes are…

The Complete Zoo Adventure by Mary and Gary Parker

A complete field trip in a book. I like hearing that word “field trip”. As a homeschool mom I enjoy getting out to do school as much as the kids. What an incredible book. First and foremost  I love to teach my children about God’s creation. Unfortunately, most books on animals deal with evolution and not on a Creator. I like it when I don’t have to edit a book to line it up with God’s word. I want my kids to see that…
