Science and the Dogma of Common Descent

I recently found myself involved in a lengthy facebook discussion over the ideas of the age of the earth and evolution, and I wanted to share some of my thinking on the evolution topic here as well.

As a former research and development engineer, I'm used to proving ideas in the lab with real data.  I think that's where common descent has fallen short.  Yes, evolution, defined as change over time, is a fact.  We can see it.  But there seems to be limits to the amount of change…

December 21, 2012, the Mayan Calendar & A Free Kindle Book for the End of the World

The Mayan Long Calendar ends on December 21, 2012 and everyone's seeing that as a sign of an impending Apocalypse. Well, not everyone. The Mayans were actually looking forward to it as something of a Golden Age per some scholars.

In any case, Christians need not fear this hocus pocus. Jesus adamantly stated even He didn't know the day nor hour of His Return, only the Father…

Wildlife Wednesday - The Magnificent Frigate - Epic Evolutionary FAIL

We got up close and personal with a Magnificent Frigate Bird  a.k.a. "Man 'O War" back in September.

These birds only come in to roost during mating season and in cases of really big storms. The one in the bottom left corner is a male. You can just make out the red on his throat.…

Project Turns Into A Beginning Of Life Lesson

It was supposed to be a simple project to make 10 free standing podiums. My son needed to do a civic project and a local community center needed these podiums as a teaching aid. He had to come up a design and make a list of materials, so a trip to a local home improvement store was made to come up with ideas. We found what we needed to make the project as simple as possible and built our prototype. The project was approved and a date was set for my son and a group of friends to build the…

Book Review: Great for God by David Shibley

In this book the author explores the lives of twenty three different men and women whom he considers to be great for God. They were all Protestant missionaries—the subtitle to the book being, “Missionaries Who Changed the World”. Not only that, every one included is dead. I suppose that is appropriate though, since how we finish is of utmost importance.

Included are life synopsises of these Christians (not a complete list):

Bill Bright

William Carey

New Intelligent Design Website Now Open

Doing a little research on the internet lately, I realized how hard it can be to come by quality information with regards to Intelligent Design Theory. There also seemed to be a lack of creditable refutations for the Darwanist view of evolution. With that in mind, I set out to create a website to bring all of the information and latest news feeds from the most reputable sites possible. After creating said website, I realized how popular it had become, I also added a search engine that will…

Book Review: When You Ask Why by Daniel Johnson

I have to admit I wasn’t sure where this book was going at first…but I ended up pleasantly surprised.

I appreciated the way Daniel Johnson summed  up the answer to the question, “Where is God in the suffering?”. He answers it thusly: “God does not cause the tragedy and terror that stalk the earth. He allows it, He employs it for our good; but He does not cause it, nor is it His will.”  (p.50)

For the presently grieving—reading this book in the throes of grief will help you to…
