Visiting the Creation museum

What a delightful six hours we spent in the Creation Museum! With all garbage we are expected to swallow in most museums it was so refreshing to be able to allow all our senses to take in and process such a wealth of truth without having to dissect everything first.

Really, we should have spent a couple of days there. Six hours wasn't enough!…

A Godly Heritage

I am blessed with a heritage that I had nothing to do with but which has everything to do with who I am.

More than just my eye color and my size were determined by who my parents were. It is amazing to think of all the similarities between what my parents and Grandparents were and what I am today. …

A Child's Faith

I'm so glad the Bible records the concern Jesus had for children. He knew how vulnerable they were, but also how sensitive they were to his teaching. We homeschool for a reason.

We first started a school in our home when our older grandchildren were young. Their mom was burned out using a labor intensive curriculum, and our grandchildren were about to be sent to a public school. We had heard of the A.C.E. program and knew of it's high… Continue

God controls the weather but we can mess it up

We always hope that it doesn't happen, especially after such a beautiful start to spring, but it always does. The snow comes back, if only for a day. The weather is never perfect for long.

Sometimes I wonder what it was like before thorns and thistles sprung up after the fall, or before the flood when the…

Missing Piece Part 2

In my last blog I listed some of the problems that beset the First Nations People of Northern Canada: drinking, drugs, gangs, child pregnancies, and suicides; all in a culture that believes in a Creator God. What has gone wrong?

It's not that the Chiefs and Councils don't try. During our stay in Sandy Lake Reserve the Council set up a prayer time at the public schools on the first day of school. The Chief, some councilors, and a number of… Continue

A missing piece to the puzzle

Last year we had the privilege of working with the First Nations people in the north beyond where the roads go. It was a unique experience, one that we will always remember. We learned to love the people. We began to understand their traditions and enjoy them. But our time there was a time of discovery in another way as well.…

Nathanael's Question

"All science is bad, isn't it Grandma?" Nathanael looked up at me with the intelligent but

innocent eyes of an eight year old. I prayed silently, and then put an arm around him as I struggled for just the right answer.

A few years earlier, after attending an interesting church…

What can we do?

Please don't assume that because we home school our grandchildren, we are saying that every grandparent should do the same. How each of us chooses to influence our grandchildren is between ourselves and God, and, of course, the parents.

Our own children do have the right and responsibility to choose how much involvement to allow. We are blessed with a son-in-law from a culture that sees grandparents as an…

The Agenda

One of the advantages of having lived long enough to be a grandparent is that you gain a broader perspective. Here is an example:

When I was still just a wee thing barely old enough to understand, I remember my parents, who were both immigrants from Russia, talking about the agenda of the communist and how they didn't have to use weapons of war to accomplish their main goal of turning our nation away from…
