To Stand Apart: Following Christ's Footsteps

"And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me." - Matthew 10:38

Being a disciple of Jesus Christ is a lot more than just saying a prayer, hitting church once and a while, and reading a verse in the bible when things are going rough. When one becomes a Christian, a transformation takes place. We are adopted into God's family, and as such, his promise for eternal life. No longer are we enslaved to sin. The chains have…

New Beginnings

I have never been very good at New Year resolutions. Whether it's pledging to work out more consistently, eat less junk food, or even read through the entire Bible in a year, I seem to fall flat on my face sooner rather than later. In fact, I'm not sure I've ever made it past February in any of my New Year resolutions.

Sometimes that lack of commitment scares me.

I know it's just a New Year's resolution. It's not like it's a job responsibility. Or a marriage vow. But I…

Genetic Brethren: Considering Homology

Take a look in the mirror and study the features of your face. Are you looking at the face of a monkey? Though perhaps not quite as dramatic, evolutionists propose that humans and chimpanzees share a common ancestor and thus share common traits. Because man and chimp have similar physical and genetic characteristics, it is generally regarded as support for an evolutionary understanding of origins and ancestry within secular academia. But is that the end of the…

A World of Hurt

If God is so good, why is there so much death and suffering?
Hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes, AIDS, starvation, murder, disease, infection, divorce, depression. Life is plagued by adversity, marked by tragedy. A loving God wouldn't allow this, would he? The existence of such pain in the world has led many to question the very existence…

Walking Wire

Heights are funny. Though I say I'm not afraid of them, put me up at an elevation higher than a single storey house and my confidence in my footing begins to falter. Why is it when you look up at something, it seems a lot shorter than when you look down at something from the same spot? Perception is a powerful thing. It blurs the vision. Distorts reality. Or does it reveal the truth? Maybe I got this height thing all wrong. Maybe I truly am scared of them. Maybe I'm scared of what I'll see…

In Thy Light

"For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light." - Psalm 36:9

Do you know what it's like to feel claustrophobic? Not just the quick flutter of the heart when it feels like things are getting cramped - I mean that horrid feeling of desperation, entrapment, and fear. Though I've mostly grown out of the sensation, when I was a child my brother used to throw a heavy…

Human Autonomy & The Nature of Truth

What is truth? It is a question which bears unparalleled philosophical implications and one which has spanned the centuries of human thought and intellectual endeavor. Scripture tells of Pontius Pilate asking this same philosophical question before the crucifixion (John 18:38). Can one know truth? Is it absolute? A critical analysis reveals its nature and relation to biblical apologetics.

Skepticism is the prevailing view of…

Neanderthals & Missing Links

Neanderthals have long captivated the inquisitive minds of the public and academia. What are they? Ape-Men? A missing link in the evolutionary chain of man? Are they even human at all? When did they live? There are a number of differing theories among evolutionary and creationist circles, but what is the truth behind these beings of… Continue

Jurassic Myth: Redefining Dinosaurs & the Bible

Dinosaurs have long been a staple image for evolution and an Old-Earth. Evolutionists are still shaping their models for these “terrible lizards” and how they went extinct “millions of years ago”. Children are particularly keen on these particular reptiles, and Hollywood has captured grown ups’ hearts with big budget films like Jurassic Park. For Christians, dinosaurs seem to present an interesting dilemma: How do dinosaurs “fit” into Scripture? Obviously, this problem differs… Continue

The Global Flood

The event known as “Noah’s Flood” in Genesis 6 is one of the most mocked passages throughout academia. Even some Christian theologians have reduced the account to mere allegory or poetical gibberish. Secularists laugh at the notion of a flood that would cover the whole earth, and some Christians have made a number of well-intentioned arguments to try and reconcile the infallibility of Scripture while maintaining the status-quo of evolutionary geology. Did a global flood really…

The Value of Human Life

What is the value of human life? Are we highly sophisticated animals? An intelligent species evolved over millions of years? Or something more? What does it mean to be “made in the image of God”? It is a distinction of the utmost importance. It affects the way we perceive, treat, and value life.

Man: The Animal

Professor John Rendle-Short, a Creationist pediatrician, believed…

The Nature of Miracles

Miracles are considered

mythical. After all, most people don't claim to see a man turning water

in wine during a party these days. But does this mean that the numerous

accounts in the Bible that describe miraculous events can't be trusted?

Are miracles even real at all? And even if they are, does God still

perform them?

Are Miracles Real?

First of all, the Bible…

Consider Humanism: Campaign Against God

The American Humanist Association is launching the largest anti-God

campaign in history this November. Starting tonight, the American public

can see the fruits of the campaign through television spots (including

one on NBC's Dateline) and major-metropolitan newspaper and magazine

advertisements. Each advertisement of the campaign, which is titled

simply "Consider Humanism", examines a passage from either the Bible or

Quran and follows it up with a Humanist… Continue

Suppressing the Truth

"Faith

is the great cop-out, the great excuse to evade the need to think and

evaluate evidence. Faith is belief in spite of, even perhaps because

of, the lack of evidence."

- Richard Dawkins *

To the atheist, faith is the ultimate rejection of reason. It is believing without a purpose, contrary to logic, principle, and rationale. As

famous atheist…

Dating Eve

Scientists have been trying to calculate the age of the "Mitochondrial

Eve" for years, and one age that has surfaced for the mother of all

humans comes as no surprise for biblical Creationists: 6,000 years.

It's one of many ages, however, and, as the recent article from The Institute for Creation Research points out, the result depends

completely on the assumptions associated with the… Continue
