Coming around the curve on the Hummock’s Trail, I looked up, and the view of Mt. St. Helens caught my breath – it was absolutely stunning! However, almost immediately I heard and felt the rumble of fear in our group.
The group had spotted “smoke” on the mountain. Was Mt. St. Helens in danger of eruption? If so – we were in EXTREME DANGER! The group questioned Lloyd Anderson, our guide about the “smoke.” He quickly calmed their fears and explained there was a LOT of ash on the mountain that was very frequently stirred up by heavy wind gusts.
Whew! Safe! For now anyway! The “smoke” was just an
dust devil “ash devil.”
“6 The LORD does whatever pleases him,
in the heavens and on the earth,
in the seas and all their depths.
7 He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth;
he sends lightning with the rain
and brings out the wind from his storehouses.”
