There is a day coming where all who have ever lived will stand before God to give account for their lives. This is known by most as the Judgment Day. It is spoken about several times in the Bible, but the overall account of what will happen is explained in Revelations 20: 11-15.
11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them.
12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.
13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done.
14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.
15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. Rev 20:11-15 (ESV)
In a sermon preached by Pastor Steve Brown, M.Div. Asbury, he gave great detail about the books that will be opened that day. The Bible will be one of the books opened. Jesus told us that his words would not pass away and that men would be judged by the words of the law and the gospel. Jesus noted to the Pharisees that Moses would accuse them and Christ clearly tells us that those that "believe not will be damned." That is, those that hear the word of God and reject it. God expects all men to believe his words in the Bible and that is surely why it is the most published book in all the world. The message of salvation in found in this book and those that reject his words of the gospel and the law, which leads men to Christ, will be judged by the words in that book.
Pastor Brown also noted that there is a book for each soul that has ever lived. He called those books, the book of deeds. In each person's book his life is recorded. It is not a history as we read history books today, but one that records even the thoughts and intents of the hearts, along with the actual deeds of a man, woman, or child.
"For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known." Matt 10:26 (NKJV)
The final book opened is the Book of Life. It is in this book that the names of those who have been born again are recorded. It is possible, however, for names to be "blotted out" of this book, or for those who were once saved to fall away from their first faith into unbelief and error.
"Let them be blotted out of the book of the living,
And not be written with the righteous." Psalms 69:28 (NKJV)
Many other verses confirm this truth.
On this day of Judgment, the Lord will also vindicate all his servants who have stood for him and have suffered as a result.
