Unveiling the Kings of Israel: Revealing the Bible’s Archaeological History by David Down, Master Books (2011)

Very much a sequel to Unwrapping the Pharaohs, David Down’s Unveiling the Kings of Israeldemonstrates that “far from being a book of myths, the Bible is an amazing historical record and each year, more archaeological discoveries continue to prove its validity and significance.

This book covers much more than the kings of Israel. Beginning with Genesis and the Flood account, Down covers Biblical history from Noah to King David and onward to the life of Jesus of Nazareth, the King of Kings. In each chapter, he demonstrates how archaeology confirms the Biblical narratives. Fans of Unwrapping the Pharaohs will find some information repeated from that book, where Egyptian history meets Biblical history. Likewise, readers will note that Unveiling the Kings of Israelfollows the revised Egyptian chronology he and John Ashton proposed in the first book – a reduced Egyptian chronology that solves many riddles of history and better fits the Biblical record of history!

Like the previous work, this book is lavishly illustrated with wonderful photographs and contains four interesting appendices dealing with the Wilderness Tabernacle, Solomon’s Temple, the Dead Sea Scrolls and other details of history. As before, the most awesome thing I can say about this book is that it not only builds one’s faith in Biblical history but shows how many historical problems can be correctly by taking the Bible as our ultimate authority! This book is well worth buying on its own, containing as it does a recap of the points of Egyptian chronology which meet biblical history; though I highly recommend Unwrapping the Pharaohsas well, for those not particularly interested in Egyptian history yet who desire to see archaeological confirmations of Biblical history, this book gives a wealth of highly readable information to strengthen your faith and inspire awe in the accuracy of God’s revealed Word, the Bible.
